I just watch a video interview NBC gave to MLK in 1963 I believe. He talked about when the negros were emancipated, they were given nothing when land was being given away in the west and mid west. He talked about how when the white slaves were freed, they were helped.
Reading history, some slaves that were freed, were given land they once had worked on. But history can be obscured, made to make you think otherwise. Finding out the truth is an undoubting task.
I look back to when settlers first settled into this land. They took what they wanted and pushed back those that already lived here. You would think that would have stopped after this country won their independence. We kept pushing and pushing and now those that were originally entitled to this land, we took it away and "gave" them their on piece.
I felt bad because that have happened, but that was before my time, and there is nothing I can do about it. Just like there is nothing I can do about those that think they are entitled because their ancestors lived in a period where they were treated unfairly.
The irony is this. Those that settled here left their native homeland to get away from the oppressions they were under only to do the same thing in the new land. Today, there is feelings of ill will because of negros used as slaves in America, but nothing is said of the negros in Africa, the origin of slaves used in America, being used as slaves there in the present day.
Sometimes, it appears that people talk only to keep a fire lit that they are afraid to let go out, because the attention will go away from them. And I am not talking about race. It is common place among celebrities.
Hollywood is threatening to leave Ga because of their antiabortion bill. They pointed out, in a round about way, that 92,000 people will lose work and Ga will lose a certain amount to revenue. But Hollywood forgot one thing. That in order for them to make money, someone has to see their movies. Making a threat like that, I am sure they will lose some revenue, how much, who knows, who cares.
It is like the blind leading the blind.
People do things because it is how they have seen it and know not the reason why they do it.
Reminds me of a story.
A daughter was watching her mother taking a roast and cutting off the ends before putting in the oven. She asked her mother, "why do you do that?". She replied that she had always seen her mom do that and have done it ever since. The next time the daughter went to see her grandma, she asked her grandma why she always cut the end of the roast before putting it in the oven. The grandmother replied, "because back then, the roast was always bigger than the pan and I had to cut it down to make it fit.".
