Windows 10 Tech Preview, I am done for now....... (part 2)

I know this post is a little bit late. I intended to do a follow up on the install situation, but I plumb forgot. At the time, working lots and lots of overtime. At my age, you tend to start to forget things.

I was able to get Windows 10 TP to install. I know it is a long time and Windows 10 Creator update has already been released, I still want to share how I finally managed. I had a Windows 2008 server laying around from when I was in school. I thought hmmm, could it possibly work if I install that first then Window 10 TP? Theoretically no because you cannot install a "home" based OS over a server OS without a clean install. But hey, why not try.

I believe the problem I was having at first was that the Win10TP needed the system reserve portion to be at 350mb. Windows 7 has 100mb and for some reason, the WIN10TP could not resize that partition and could not form the partition on a clean install. Win 2008 server does create the same size partitions used by WIN10TP. After I installed the Win 2008 server, I used the WINTP upgrade option. It worked. Only thing I can think of is that perhaps the WIN10TP was still being tested and not released as an RTM that it was allowed to upgrade the 2008 server? I do not know, but it worked.

What I had done after next was I done another clean install of Win7. This time, since I knew WIN10 was going to need 350MB system reserve space, I partitioned the drive accordingly.

..... then Windows 10 was released.

Like most people, there was a problem upgrading through the windows upgrade process. So I downloaded Windows 10 and upgraded that way. Did not have a problem and everything worked fine since then. I have not had any problem on a computer that was 6 to 7 years old at the time. The specs were still comparable to new computers at the time of installing WIN10.

Yes, I am speaking in past tense. This year, I bought a used iMac. I became intrigued after I bought an iPhone last year. And I want to expand my OS knowledge. I now have an iMac with Win10 Creator running in Parallels.

More on that in another post.......
